Girls and Women with Asperger's Syndrome

Minds and Hearts now offer a downloadable resource for parents of girls with Asperger's Syndrome and women with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. The resource is a video of one of the Minds and Hearts Information Nights.

Historically, our understanding about Asperger's syndrome (AS) has largely been based on research and clinical descriptions of boys and men with the condition. At Minds and Hearts we have found, through our clinical practice, Asperger's in girls and women can present differently, and thus can be more difficult to detect. Yet earlier detection of girls on the spectrum is vital to allow both early and accurate intervention. The aims of this seminar are to increase understanding of the unique female presentation of Asperger's syndrome, and how to manage common challenges that can be part of the picture. These include emotion management, self-identity issues, and issues with relationships as partners, friends, and parents. Helpful ideas are provided by the presenters as well as parents and women in the audience.
